I do everything from scratch and we make all our Christmas gifts instead of buying stuff. Things settled down here on the farm but I took a part time cooking job to earn a little mad money. The day DH told we didn't have $10 to cover my hair cut and I'd have to settle for a flobee haircut sent me out the door looking for a good part time job. Only make about $150 to $200 a month but at least I can get my hair cut when I want to or buy a new pair of sneakers when I need 'em! I do have a blog now that I try to hit at least once a week if anyone wants to keep better track of me! onewomansprepping.com
My babies turned 18 this last summer so just got adult kids now. Now I'm looking forward to the empty nest thing! Maybe one day they'll all move out! Still have 2 that lost jobs last year still unemployed and living at home. They are going to get an apartment in the big city and try their luck there until summer-- we hope! Running out of jobs for them to do. We've got some big ones coming up but not until summer time. DH said he'd supplement them if he had to. They both have disabilities so it's much harder for them to find jobs in this poor economy.
I've made up cheese popcorn, Caramel nut popcorn, butter popcorn and cinnamon popcorn and party mix and filled our big holiday cans. Made sugar free cookies this year. I did cookies that I could use fruit concentrate in place of sugar. Worked out real well so was able to reduce the sugar intake a little this year. My recipes are on my blog for the pop corn's.
We've had some snow but this last week has been pretty warm. It's a balmy 46 right now. Not use to warm stuff here in the winter time. Sure makes taking care of lifestock a lot easier! I'm sure winter is coming for real but I could sure get use to this warmer stuff easy enough!
I went through my fabric stash and made clothes for everyone this year. Just did one photo quilt for my father-in-law who has terminal cancer. Did a lap quilt with picture of him from when he was a baby all the way up to a month ago. Wanted him to know his life counted. So grateful we were able to go out and visit him last month. Saying good bye for the last time is always hard but I knew we needed to go on out and get it done. Dad is much more at peace and ready to go now too. All the other 6 kids live close by but we're 1,000 miles away.
Well I hope you each have a lovely Christmas with your family and a blessed New Year!
