Thanksgiving Goodness!

Rate this Entry
It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is next week. I am normally prepared for the holidays, but this year we had very strange weather. It felt like it was still late summer here until just last week. Maybe that is why I am thrown off.
I was so pleased that the Dh's new company sent our family a coupon for a free turkey, ham or vegtables up to $20.00. I have never heard of such a thing, but I am so greatful. That helps out a family more than I think they realize. What a wonderful way for a company to show they CARE about their employees. I think America has forgotton how to take care of each other. Sad isn't it? But when you see things like the coupon voucher, it reminds you that good people are out there. Something you don't see everyday, but it is so nice to be reminded of that everyonce in awhile.
I did most of my holiday shopping yesterday and thanks to that coupon and my other clipped ones I saved $30.00! YAY
This year is the first ever holiday that it will just be me, dh and the kids. I am so happy, I have been waiting 13 years to escape my in-laws and finally I HAVE VICTORY! I know, I know, but you all have no idea of the tortue I have been put through all these years......So finally I get the peace I have been praying for!!!!
What are all of your plans???

We had similar weather too, it was really warm, then a brief cold spell, then warm again. It is hard to get in the mood to cook fall dishes when it's too warm.

that's great! lots of companies have stopped doing things like that due to the economy. I know of a company in Maine that even told employees last year that they would be turning down the heat 10 full degrees for the winter, so they needed to "dress appropriately". I was thinking, how do you dress appropriately for that?? Wear your snowsuit to work??

It's great that they sent home part of the Holiday dinner, it helps to feel appreciated.

I agree with that as well. People have seemingly turned their backs on each other and some days I wonder if it's because we've changed so much as a nation or if its strictly a self-preservation thing. I mean, after all - look at all the lawsuits when people TRY to do the right thing. When I was kid, if we saw someone broke down on the side of the road, we stopped to help. If we did that now, here, we'd likely be shot or run over from oncoming traffic, Or sued if something else happened to their car down the road.

Sometimes I wish certain things in this country could go BACKWARDS 50 or so years- when it was okay for kids to roam the neighborhood and the neighbors would give them hell if they did something wrong (& you'd know all about it!), or bring baskets of freshly baked goods to the neighbors just to check in on them. Things of that nature. . . what a world this could be.

    HAHAHA That's too funny!

thankfully we don't have to deal with the in laws at all during the holidays either. Personally I think half of dh's family is insane and the other half is just plain crazy. The last time we ate at the MIL (Monster in Law), I was pregnant and when I went into the house I was informed that I would be cooking the dinner. Fried Smelts and Mashed potatoes. . . Have you ever tried to hold your breath whilst cooking fish when you're pregnant. I was gagging, and I STILL can't stand the smell of smelts cooking.

I spent the last 2 days creating a few experimental recipes, which worked beautifully the first time around (for once!). We're just planning on frying up a turkey and having some great food, and excellent friends to spend some time with.
