When it rains . . .

... It Pours! The last few weeks here on the site have been rather difficult, to say the very least. For more than 10 days straight our server underwent severe dDoS attacks, (which are essentially designed by the creator to knock a site offline for extended periods of time, or permanently by overrunning the server with fake visitors). That's the non-technical explanation. The more technical explanation can be viewed here.
What it meant for me was 18 hour days of trying to keep my data from being compromised, whilst trying to keep Budget101 afloat so members could view the site. As you may have noticed, it messed with the daily email updates, flooded some folks with more than 200 duplicate emails per day for several days in a row. We disabled all email updates until we were able to reset the server, but it was a little too late. Yahoogroups deleted one of our accounts that we use to notify members, aol blocked our server - rejecting emails for those that have tried to register to the site, along with a host of other email issues from various places.
I've been working hours on end just to bring the site back to Full working status. Patience is a virtue, it just doesn't happen to be one that I possess.
It's been an interesting and quite expensive experience. For awhile, dh & I considered just letting the site go. It's been a rather expensive venture over the past 10 years, but I've poured my heart and soul into the site, adding articles, recipes and learning web design along the way. I've met tons of incredible people from all walks of life, some rich, some dirt poor, and what it comes down to folks is that I love the site, the people I've met and the ideas that are shared here.
So, although I've hit a severe pothole in the road of webdesign, I will plod on.
Thank you to all of our members who make this community what it is, for your contributions on the site and for your patience when kinks arise. I may not have big corporate dollars to buy huge servers that run without issue, but you'd be hard pressed to find a site with more heart.
