Short visit and afternoon country drive with Matt and Doug

Rate this Entry
Our son called today and said he had some time between classes and wondered if we would be in the mood to swing by his residence at university and go for a drive out into the country. It was a beautiful sunny day about 68 degrees and so the three of us enjoyed a 1 hour drive looking at the spectacular change in the colour of leaves. Reds, golds, oranges, still some green not changed yet but it was awesome! We are so lucky to live where we welcome the change of the four seasons......sometimes I wish I lived where the sun shone every day but then I realize that I enjoy the beauty that there is to witness, with sun, rain, snow and ice. On the drive back to residence we stopped and picked up some fresh fruit and juice, so expensive on the campus and a few extra little treats for him and his room mate. It was a day well spent!

Oh what fun! Glad you were able to spend an unexpected day with your son! I always thought I loved Spring best but I too have learned that there is so very much to be appreciated in every season! Our wet cool summer has made for a glorious autumn leaves this year! They'll all be bare soon but I sure enjoyed it while I could! Enjoy those unexpected phone calls. If your son is anything like mine were they'll get farther apart until you'll be lucky if he comes home at all! Sometimes it's hard to stand back and let them spread their wings and fly!

I am sure you are right about not hearing from Matt as much, There are not as many calls home as I thought there would be but he truly is studying and having a social life and has joined a couple of clubs. It feels natural for him to be away and he had prepared himself for this. It is his time to grow that is for sure! He appreciates everything so much and is enjoying meeting people from all over the world at his university. Fall colours continue to be prolific and we are enjoying these last days before winter's cold weather settles in. and thank you for commenting on my blog, it makes me feel like there is someone out there who is going through the same things.
