luck...

ya know, if it weren't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all! I have been outta commission for about two weeks due to a nasty eye infection...I guess I was lucky that it was only ONE eye;-\ it's kinda hard to talk to people when one eye is barely open and you don't have any make-up on...they tend NOT to hear what you're saying and suggesting because all they can think of, "what's wrong with her eye? why does she look so pale? is she contagious?" so I gave up...and, of course...it shows in my bank account;-\ THEN...yesterday while fixing dinner (yes, I'm Southern...we say 'fixing' [actually, I'm a well-educated Southerner so I use the term fixing instead of fixin'! LOL!]), a mosquito bites my right ring finger. I smash the little demon (they have been awful this year and literally swarm at the door waiting for fresh blood [guess I'll have to start wearing Skin-So-Soft 24/7]), ran for the cortisone cream, smeared it on and returned to fixing I was just about to serve myself when I realized my finger was hurting...it had swollen to about 1 1/2 times its normal size and it was the ring causing the pain! it was so swollen, the ring wouldn't even turn, much less come off. blood was getting into the finger, but it wasn't getting out. I smeared more cortisone, did ice paks, held it over my head, but no avail. I finally decided to eat dinner, then take a Benadryl, and go to bed (stuff knocks me out). gave little (that's a laugh...5 month-old chocolate lab that weighs 50+ pounds!) Cocoa one too so she'd settle down to sleep early and not want to do the before-bed playing. woke up this morning and there was no change so I had to call the doctor AGAIN! (this has been an expensive summer;-<) he didn't want to do any medication (yay for my wallet!) as it would take 24-48 hours to be effective, so he cut the ring off of my finger. it was the first birthday present my ex-husband ever gave me...however, it was a nice, clean cut and a jeweler should be able to repair it. it was cut on the underside so the unusual work around the amethyst on top wasn't affected...who's gonna see the underside?! LOL! I hope that there's no more incidents...I have contributed enough to the medical community this year! the swelling has gone down considerably and is just a bit bruised and tender where the ring was. it should be back to normal before the week is out

When it rains, it pours. I know the feeling. Sometimes I feel like there is a bulls-eye painted on me and a little black cloud over my head. It goes away but can sure get you down until it does!!! Chin up - I would really miss your recipes if something really got you down.

It think it's just been one of those summers! I'd say smile once you hit rock bottom you got no where but up to go but this summer I've learned that I had no clue what so ever where rock bottom really is! I don't think I want to find out either but the way this summer has been I have a feeling I might find out! Hope your eye rejoins your regular day and the finger recovers soon! We'd all really, really miss you!
