Thinking out loud...How did I ever get to this point??

My family and I just moved to Texas from California last month. Learning to be frugal and wise with our money has always proven to be easier said than done. I mean, I completely understand about living below your means and saving for a rainy day but I often fall prey to the ads that tell us how much better off we would be with "this and or that". When we lived in California, we lived in a very nice area in a home that I inherited from my Grandfather. We had 2 nice cars and nice furnishings. We also had credit card debit. Well to make a long story short, my husband and I lost our business of 15yrs and it took awhile to find another source of income. Needless to say, payments were missed, late fees insued as did over the limit fees and the snowball kept getting bigger. I was pregnant with our 5th child at the time and had to take on a job. My husband worked 2 jobs from 11 am at night to 5 pm in the afternoon 5 days a week. I worked 7 days a week from 2 am to 6 am and my middle 2 daughters 13yrs and 15yrs took turns going with me to help me while the other babysat at home. Because of the long hours, our home was a literal mess and we constantly ate fast food. Somehow we managed to live with this sleep deprivation and the kids all graduated on to the next grade. However....this all took its toll and we ended up filing bankruptcy....we lost our home, we lost a car, we lost our credit rating but we have each other and a fresh, new start!! Yay!! Now, we are living in another state with our inlaws. My husband just started a new job yesterday and hopefully he is able to find another job so that we can start saving. I NEVER want to put my family in that position again, so I know I must surround myself with frugal people in order to live and learn that lifestyle. I know it will take work and I must be ever aware of what I am spending. We no longer have debt. We no longer have 2 cars. We no longer have our own home. We no longer have our nice furnishings. We DO have our SANITY, our FAMILY, KNOWLEDGE, a new JOB and the kids have their MOM back. We are struggling financially right now with groceries, gas, etc, but we are managing. Here begins our new journey into financial freedom and security.
