Put 3 quarts of apples, sliced thin, in a crock pot and cook overnight on high. Next morning, add 2 teaspoons cinnamon, 3 cups sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cloves. Cook all day on low. Tastes like old-fashioned apple butter that is cooked in copper kettle.
You can use applesauce if you do not have time to prepare the apples.(unsweetened applesauce). The crock pot makes it possible for apples to cook a long time without being stirred.
I love to make this around this time of the year. It must be a holiday thing or something. It just seems to go with the theme of things. I also like useing applesauce, it's cheaper and easier for me. As it cooks it well turn a dark rich brown color, that's when you know it's done, and then place in jars, (that have been in a hot water bath), and then give them as a gift.
