108 oz. can (#8 size) unsweetened applesauce--see below as to how to
use the apples you have for applesauce
2 cups cider
1 T. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. ground cloves or 1 tsp. ground nutmeg, optional
1. Combine applesauce and cider in slow cooker.
2. Cover. Cook on high 3-4 hours
3. Add spices.
4. Cover. Cook 1 hour more.
This recipe can be canned for future use according to your canner's
Since this calls for already made applesauce and you have the apples
whole. Just cook the apples with a little water in a large kettle
until mushy soft and then use whatever you can to smash the pulp
through a seive/strainer to remove peels, seeds, etc. If you plan to
make applesauce or apple butter often, I would purchase an applesauce
seive. I am sure that there are websites that offer kitchen gadgets
that would have these.
