Fragrance Stones
Fragrance Stones
1-1/2 cups flour
1/4 cup salt
1/4 tsp. cornstarch
2/3 cup boiling water
1 tbls. fragrance oil
Colorant of your choice
Mix all dry ingredients. Heat water in a Pyrex cup in the microwave or on the stove. Add the f/o and the color to the water. Stir water mixture into flour mixture. Mix as best you can and then knead the dough with your hands. At this point you just want it to look like pie or cookie dough. Roll it out about a quarter of an inch thick. Cut into shapes or use cookie cutters. Another option is to stamp the flat shapes. Let the dough stones dry. They get hard as rocks and will last for months.
I have not tried this, but it looked easy to make, and would be cheaper than buying one. Most of the ingred. you would have, except for the fragrance oil. In my case I would have to buy some.

Your welcome Janice, I thought that it looked interesting too. I guess you wouldn't have to use the fragrance if a person didn't have any. But lavender sure is a nice one to use, love the smell of it.

Used to have a recipe (probably still do - somewhere) very similar to this except instead of cutting shapes it was rolled in little balls sort of like Peanut M&M's. They were done in 2 or 3 co-ordinating colors and displayed in crystal dishes. Very pretty. Used to think I would make them but - well, you know how it is!!!

Now this does sound really easy to make. A nice homemade gift idea. And the lavender fragrance is such a soothing fragrance. I surely could use that smell about now...

when all else fail you have natural fragrences. Cinnamon, clove, some vanilla, orange peel (dosent work too well but if left in a hott car I bet it would). Nice recipe!

The only problem I see with the recipe, and keep in mind I'm speaking from a melt-and-pour soap only perspective (ie, never made anything quite like this before)...
But the only problem I'm seeing is that if you have boiling water, you might either burn off the fragrance, or risk hitting the flash point of the oil. (ie. BOOF!)
It sounds like a really neat idea though.Would like to try it, except wait on adding the f.o. until later on in the recipe.
