Great ideas!
To add on to your “frozen” treats idea-
We buy yogurt in the big bucket in vanilla flavor. I scoop it intoflat bottomed ice cream cones, drizzle some strawberry syrup and
sprinkles on top, and freeze them. The kids have pre-made “ice
cream” cones to eat! We’ve also done this with pudding, too. Jellodidn’t work out so hot. 😉
I agree on the AC. People didn’t use them 100 years ago, and
survived. Heck, look how women dressed in the 1800’s, with all thosemassive heavy layers of clothing, head to toe!
We’re moving now, but for the last 3 summers, it’s been hot and
miserable- made more so because the house we’re in has a 3 panel (anextra panel, basically) slider facing the west, and very little over
hang from the roof. Basically, come 1pm, the house becomes an oven,
even if we shut the curtains. My husband’s chair is right in frontof it (lack of being able to rearrange furniture due to dumb
architect and useless non-wall space), so he bakes in the summer. We
run the ac sparingly, but the unit was built when the house was- inthe 50’s. It barely cools off the air at all, so we make use of
fans. He’ll use the AC, too, but it doesn’t do much.
Can’t say I’ll miss that wall when we move!We also BBQ out just about every night. A tank of propane lasts us
half a summer, so we spend about $35 on propane for summer. The
electricity used to heat the oven every night, and the added strainon making the house even warmer, though, is much more expensive. 😉
Also, the apartment building we’re moving to has a pool, so that
will be NICE. If it gets too hot in the house, we go swim. Withoutpaying for gas or a parking permit (all the parks around us charge
$20 per year, or $5 per visit to go to). I can’t wait!
