    • Instant Sunburn Relief & Cure

Somehow or other someone in our family always manages to get a sunburn at least once per summer. This year, it just happened to be me. I spent the day on the coast catching a cooler full of blue crabs to share with friends and family and although I applied sunscreen to my face first thing in the morning, I somehow managed to get sidetracked. This, my friends, is what you'll look like if you too get sidetracked . . . but don't worry, there is an easy fix that offers INSTANT pain relief that lasts . . .

      You'll Need:

      a Large Bowl
      Earl Grey Tea Bags

Place 5-7 early grey tea bags in your coffee pot filter holder and then run a pot of water through your coffeepot. Once it's done brewing, transfer the tea into a large bowl and add the teabags that you used to brew the pot of tea.

Let it cool to room temperature. Soak a clean towel in the bowl of room temperature Early Grey tea. Wring it out gently and apply it to directly to the burned area for a minimum of 30 minutes. Do not use sprays, aloe or any other "treatment". This tea MUST be applied within 6-8 hours of the initial burn to be most effective. It will immediately relieve pain. By the next morning, it will look like my back does here in the 4th photo.

Pain is gone, tan remains. This does not work with plain tea, it only seems to work well with Earl Grey tea.

I absolutely do NOT recommend burning and I highly recommend sunscreen, like this simple No Sweat Sunscreen (which really does work if you don't forget to put it on!!)

Disclaimer, as with all recipes on this site, we're not Drs, this is just what we personally use, use it or don't, but it's your choice and responsibility regardless.

the reason why Earl Grey tea is affective over other teas is it has Oil of Bergamont i n it, it is what flavors the tea. Its also great to drink as well.

Earl Grey tea is just like the other teas, it is cut black tea, but what makes it different is it has Oil of Bergamont in it to flavor it. Its the flavoring that does the trick!

Using "regular" tea works also. My brother is a red head, and often worked outside without a shirt,(back in the 70s when we didn't think of skin cancers) and this worked great for him. Brew a real strong tea in a pot on the stove, let it cool for a bit and add a couple of trays of ice. Soak a hand towel into the now iced tea, wring it out and apply to burned area until you can feel the heat coming through the towel. Re-soak and apply until heat subsides. Works wonders.

Vinegar works too! drape a towel over the burnt area and pour the vinegar on the towel, for at least 30 mins, I generally leave it on overnight. I've had sun poison on my legs to where they were swollen more than twice their size, I did this and next morning, the swelling was gone and so was the pain.

This works! My grandson had a sunburn on his back and I steeped the Earl Grey tea, soaked a small towel, wrung it out and put on his back for about 30 minutes. This was at night. The next morning he had no pain! Yea!!!

It depends on how badly you burn. Some do, some don't.

The Japanese have been using tea to heal burns for centuries. I believe it is the tannin in the tea that helps.
