  • Gnat, Fly and Mosquito Repellent

Tired of applying harsh chemicals to your kids to keep the bugs off them? Here's a simple, safe gnat, fly and mosquito repellent that you can apply to your little ones (and yourself!) that will keep those nasty biting bugs at bay!

This blend is excellent for young children and pets.

    You'll Need:
2 tablespoons vanilla extract (not the fake stuff)
    2 cups water

Combine ingredients in a small spray/ spritz bottle, shake well to combine. To use, apply liberally, avoiding the eyes. This blend works well on Horses and dogs too.

Vanilla extract actually works pretty well. Under normal conditions (at least from my usage tests), it can last up to 2 hours per application. Now, in extreme heat/humidity like here in Louisiana, my sweat can knock the time down to about an hour. Results may vary according to humidity, heat, body chemistry and clothing. I'm actually using some in my potpourri warmer now and it seems to be working fairly well on the little buggers that have gotten into the house.

I have. It works pretty well. You'll have to apply it every hour-2 hours depending on how much you sweat. I usually wear jeans during the summer and it tends to last a bit longer in your clothing, from my experience.

WAX Myrtle works well on most bugs including fleas.

Well this is exciting, I make my own vanilla so I have a ton of it on hand. And an incredible crop of mosquitos to test this on. I sooooo hate bug spray. Thanks so much for sharing the recipe.
