    • Chocolate Brownie Mix

      3 3/4 cups granulated sugar
      2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
      1 1/3 cups unsweetened cocoa
      1 teaspoon Baking powder
      1 teaspoon salt
      2 cups Shortening

Blend all ingredients together and store in ziploc bag until ready to use.

      To Use:
      2 1/2 c. Mix (see above)
      2 eggs -- unbeaten
      1 tsp. vanilla extract
      1/2 cup chopped nuts
Spread evenly in a 8x8 inch, greased pan. Bake in preheated 350 oven for 20 minutes. Center should appear slightly underdone; for more cake-like Brownies, bake an additional 5 minutes.

Would you just double the recipe for a 13x9 inch pan? I have 3 teens at home. 8x8 doesn't seem worth the effort.

Yes, and it'll change the cooking time by a few minutes as well, so keep an eye on them

Can you use shortening powder or just regular shortening?

I made these and must say, not so good. Completely grainy. There was so much sugar that it wouldn't dissolve during baking. When I bit in to the brownie, it was CRUNCHY from the sugar. It needs more flour. I'm trying to find a way to alter this to make it acceptable because right now, you could give yourself diabetes with this one!
