Chocolate Brownie Mix

  • Chocolate Brownie Mix

    3 3/4 cups granulated sugar
    2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
    1 1/3 cups unsweetened cocoa
    1 teaspoon Baking powder
    1 teaspoon salt
    2 cups Shortening


    Blend all ingredients together and store in ziploc bag until ready to use.


    To Use:
    2 1/2 c. Mix (see above)
    2 eggs -- unbeaten
    1 tsp. vanilla extract
    1/2 cup chopped nuts
    Spread evenly in a 8x8 inch, greased pan. Bake in preheated 350 oven for 20 minutes. Center should appear slightly underdone; for more cake-like Brownies, bake an additional 5 minutes.

      Would you just double the recipe for a 13x9 inch pan? I have 3 teens at home. 8x8 doesn't seem worth the effort.

      Yes, and it'll change the cooking time by a few minutes as well, so keep an eye on them

      Can you use shortening powder or just regular shortening?

      I made these and must say, not so good. Completely grainy. There was so much sugar that it wouldn't dissolve during baking. When I bit in to the brownie, it was CRUNCHY from the sugar. It needs more flour. I'm trying to find a way to alter this to make it acceptable because right now, you could give yourself diabetes with this one!
