With only 39 days in the job left I am winding things up and cleaning out. With the job focusing on physical activity for families, over the past five years I have collected a large amount of game items. Hula hoops, balls, jump ropes, bean bags, belts to play flag tag, potato sack race bags, markers for the floor, yoga kits, hop balls, water slider's, markers, crayons, and even snow brick makers.
What to do with all of these itemsI can keep them stored in a closet in my office area, but then no one knows they are there and will never use them for anything.
So I have divided all of those items into three huge piles. We have had the opportunity to visit three afterschool programs in the area to do some lessons. The children and workers have welcomed us with such pleasure. So now it is time to give back and let the kids have some fun. One of the places in particular has no toys to play outside with. They have to ask a teacher in the school to borrow a ball and of course the teacher's are not very ready to hand those out for fear of not getting them back. Well the kids will play today!
I just dropped of the first trunk load of items to that place. The workers were all in awe at the items I was giving them, just handing them away. The one girl in charge actually told me that the workers will bring in their own items and even sometimes when they are at the store they will buy something just for the kids to have to play with.
Seeing their faces light up and hearing the talk of "can we play this with the kids today"----priceless! Now this is what I thought the job was all about to start with!
