Weird Flu Remedies - What have you tried?

    Rate this Entry
Despite all of our careful precautions *laughs* the flu managed to find its way to our house. Don't get me wrong, it really hasn't been bad at all, particularly with the Boiron products we had on hand. However, I am definitely NOT one to sit idly by and let it run its course naturally. No, no, I prefer to scare it out of my body with a plethora of freaky treatments.

So far this Cold season I've tried:

    • Peroxide in the Ears (which actually seemed to help relieve sinus pressure/congestion)
    • Vitamin C - 1,000mg every half hour for 5 hours straight- this is referred to as reaching saturation point - I won't scare you by going into details.
    • Wally World brand "Vicks", rubbed on the soles of the feet and then warm socks (at night)- this one seemed to relieve coughing, however, dh threatened to sleep on the couch!
    • Yarrow Tincture
    • Homemade Chicken Vegetable stew with tumeric, garlic, onions and just about everything else you can imagine

I'm always game to try new remedies, partly because I'm not a fan of otc medicine and partly out of sheer curiosity. Needless to say, my kids will be thrilled when this flu season passes, I'm sure of it.

I can't be the only one with weird flu remedies, what have you tried?

My favorite remedy for the flu is a homemade tea:

      1 tsp. bayberry bark.
      1 tsp. grated ginger root.
      tsp. cayenne powder.
      1 cup of boiling water.
Let it sit for 20 minutes.

Drink several times throughout the day. I think the spices in the cayenne is the key!

Garlic and oil of Organono added to all your lists. But if you get the swine flu nothing is going to stay down!

You mentioned the peroxide in the ears but it works great on the toothbrushes also. After you are done brushing (and the kids) then put a little peroxide and water in a cup and let the brushes soak until the next brushing. You can rinse it really well or leave it a little moist before reusing, the brushing will be a little extra foamy but it will kill off some of those germs-DONT SWALLOW!!!
