Made my first beans from scatch today -can not wait to freeze them and have them on hand - who ever's idea it was to post about freezing cooked beans thanks -it is a wonderful cheap idea. I used lots of garlic and onion and at the end added 3 Tlb of chili powder - for making chili . I wish my group were better bean eaters - well thanks for the idea my only problem is I am eating them as they cool -So I 'm sure if I eat to many I will be out of friends for a while - or just untill I 'm out of hot air lol. Congratulations Bobbi - The solution to the "hot air" is to convince your friends to eat beans, too!!! Good Luck!!!

My family was not big on the beans until I tried the recipe on here. Now we eat them all the time that I have a hard time keeping them stocked in the freezer

      Instant Refried Beans Mix

      3 cups dried beans
      3 tsp. dried cumin
      3 tsp. chili powder
      1 tsp. salt pepper
      3 T. dried minced onion

I don't grind my beans to start, but do mix it all up when it is done cooking. Toss all of the ingredients in a crockpot, add water to about three inches above the beans. Let it cook all day (watching to see if I need to add more water). Then package them up into bags for the freezer.

If you soak your dried beans overnight and then drain them and put fresh water in to cook, it will greatly reduce the amount of gas in your beans! Also add a dash of vinegar will also reduce gas--that's what my Mom always did! You'd think we lived on nothing but beans as much as I cook them! I drain them and then freezer bag them and always have them in much variety in my freezer. Unbeknown to my family they are eating beans several times a day! I put them into everything and just don't tell them! I mash cooked beans and also grind dry beans into flour. It goes into everything from cakes and cookies to bread. Use bean flour to coat the chicken. Mash red beans and put it into the hamburger! They rarely know they are eating beans!

brchbell - You have such good ideas. If I had all my kids at home I'd be doing the flour thing. For just me everything seems like too much work!!!

You can use beans to replace the fat in your recipes and not only does it cut down on your fat intake but also increases your protein.

Great tips, I never thought to grind them down to use as a flour.
